that halloween feeling

Happy Halloween! This is my favorite holiday, so today's post is dedicated to the spookiest, most scare filled, and sugar heavy day of the year.

autumn eyes: shadows and liners for the season

Monday, October 24, 2016

Continuing with the fall theme from my last post, I wanted to do a roundup of my favorite shadows and liners that are perfect for the season. Eyeshadows and liners have my heart when it comes to makeup and I've collected more over the years than I'd like to admit. For me, metallics, deep greens, and rich plums are the perfect palette for autumn.

In terms of palettes, you can't go wrong with the Lorac Unzipped. The metallic tones in it are stunning and I love the mattes for both liner and making a subtle smoky eye. The colors are rich, but have a bit of fallout, so you need to tap off any excess before applying. I reach for these shadows a lot and can't recommend this palette enough.

Single shadows in both powder and cream formulas have some great selections for beautiful fall shades. Laura Mercier's Terracotta is a gorgeous wet/dry shadow that packed with shimmer in a warm coppery rust tone. A brown laced burgundy shadow, Maybelline's Pomegranate Punk is one that's easy to put on with your fingertips and smudge out for an easy single-shadow eye look. When I first found Laura Geller's Copper Penny I couldn't put it down - it's such a gorgeous metallic! (Full review here) If your looking for something a little deeper, Laura Mercier's Khaki is for you. It's a dark taupe green that looks great along the lash line. (See it in action here) Last up is a warm rich rose gold from Love of Color called Impress Me that great all over the eye.

There are four liners in my collection that scream fall to me. Kat Von D's Bukowski is a stunning forest green that's easy to apply. The last three all all from Urban Decay. Empire is a deep purple that very long lasting - once it set's you're good to go. Roach is my all-time favorite and most used liner in a go-with-everything bronze tone. Trick (similar) is a stunning copper that adds bit of shimmer to any eye look.

What eyeshadows and liners do you reach for the most during the autumn months? That's one thing I love about the seasons changing - it's a great reason to shake up your makeup! I can't believe it's only one week until Halloween! It's my favorite holiday, so I'm looking forward to it as always. I need to think of a costume, but I'm not sure what I want to dress up as. I'm leaning towards Wednesday Addams, but I'm still not sure. If you're dressing up, let me know what your costume is going to be!

fall face: perfect pairings

Monday, October 17, 2016

I've been shopping my stash lately and trying out different combinations of makeup to create some perfect pairings for my fall makeup routine. Through some trial and error, I've found some duos that I've incorporated into my everyday face and have been consistently been reaching for lately.

NYX Micro Brow Pencil + NYX Tinted Brow Mascara // Separately they're each great, but together they're my perfect brow pair. The pencil is a great dupe for Anastasia's and comes in a wide selection of shades. The brow mascara has just enough hold to keep my brows in place without being crunchy and a hint of tint to finish them off and add dimension over the pencil.

IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye + Hourglass Dim Light Powder // This duo I started using within the past week and I'm so in love with it! The concealer is high coverage, but blends in smoothly if you use your fingertips. It adds a brightening effect to your undereyes and when it's set with the powder it's the perfect balance of brightness and coverage while being set into place so it doesn't crease. The first day I wore it, every time I looked in the mirror I was happier than I've ever been with my concealer. That's how I knew it was a winning combo!

Becca Flowerchild Blush + Becca Champagne Pop Poured // This blush is one of those shades that goes with everything and would look good on everyone. It lasts all day and can be built up so easily, too. I've been topping it off with the poured version of Champagne Pop for a more natural highlight (compared to the pressed version, which I would normally use) and the two together play together like bffs giving your cheeks a healthy color and glow.

Revlon Balmstain in Cherish + NYX Lipstick in Castle // This is another recent discovery. I really wanted to pull out this bright pink lipstick the other day, but by itself it was reading a bit too bright for my liking. I pulled out this lilac shade, put it on top and patted it in. The result was so perfect! Not too pink, not too purple, but just right. A regular Goldilocks of lip pairings.

What are your favorite makeup products to combine for a perfect partnership? If you've discovered any that you love, let me know! I hope you all had a great weekend! We were pretty relaxed around here. I took a long nap Saturday, which I haven't done in a while and it felt great! We ran a few errands later that day and went out to dinner at a place we hadn't tried before (and enjoyed)! I love when we find another restaurant to add to the rotation!

day to night makeup: vegas edition

Friday, October 7, 2016

Vegas, baby! The words of Joey Tribbiani capture the excitement of Las Vegas perfectly. It's a vibrant place to visit with the bright lights of the strip, the extravagance of each casino, and the endless options for shopping. I've been there twice and can say without a doubt that you never run out of things to do.* is wondering how you would transform your makeup from day to night while on vacation, especially in a city like Las Vegas that combines the glamour of a fast-paced city with the extreme temperatures of the desert. Last time I was there I stayed at The Cosmopolitan and really wanted to draw my day to night makeup look from the shine and sparkle that covers The Chandelier bar. Strung from the ceiling and dripping down several stories to the bar are countless strands of crystals making up the biggest chandelier you've ever seen. The first time I saw it I was blown away. The way it shines when it catches the light inspired my day to night makeup look.

For daytime, I went with a quick and easy look to get you out onto The Strip to explore. Becca's Flowerchild blush is one of my faves and gives enough color to easily take you from day to night. A light-handed addition of Becca's Champagne Pop highlighter to my cheekbones adds some sheen for daytime. To tie it together and add a bit more shimmer I added By Terry's Misty Rock shadow stick on my lids and below my eyes.

For the night transformation, I wanted to add more light catching elements and more color, so I topped up Champagne Pop on my cheekbones and added it to the bridge of my nose, my cupids bow...pretty much everywhere! For my eyes, I pulled out an old favorite, the Cargo Northern Lights palette. Sweeping the light blue Fjord all over my lids for some color and the glittery deep blue Glacier in the outer corner and under my eyes to add the shine, color, and fun of Las Vegas! Finishing it off with a lacquer-like gloss rounds out the light-catching look.

If  you're looking for a fun getaway to a city that has it all, make sure sure check out the hotels and package deals page for your trip! Let me know if you've ever been to Vegas or are planning on going soon! If you end up doing a day to night makeup look, let me know so I can check it out! I'm dying to go back to Vegas again - we thought about going this year with another couple, but it didn't work out, so we really want to go next year instead! You can also read all about my last trip to Vegas here.
